Pass By: Piazza San Marco, 31024 Venice Italy

It starts immediately with a breathtaking view of Piazza San Marco, the symbol of Venice. It is the only square in Venice, all the other spaces with the shape of a square are called campi. Also known as “the living room of Europe”.
Piazza San Marco, which was originally a vegetable garden crossed by canals called rii, is bordered by the old and new Procuratie, the Napoleonic Wing and the facade of the Basilica of San Marco. The first church dedicated to San Marco was built next to the Doge’s Palace in 828 to house the relics of San Marco. Over the centuries it was built and rebuilt several times, mainly due to fires that devastated it.
In St. Mark’s Square there are also the Clock Tower (completed in 1499) and the Campanile that the Venetians call “El paron de casa” – the landlord -. The Campanile di San Marco was initially a watchtower and a lighthouse

Pass By: Punta della Dogana, Sestiere Dorsoduro 2, 30123 Venice Italy

Continuing our tour we can admire La Punta della Dogana or Punta della Salute.
It is a triangular area whose tip divides the Grand Canal and the Giudecca Canal, and which overlooks the San Marco Basin. The seventeenth-century building of the Dogana da Mar, also with a triangular plan, is crowned by a tower dominated by the Palla Golden. At the time of the Republic of Venice, given the strategic position, it was used as a customs headquarters for the goods of the naval trade. This part of the city also includes the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute which was designed by Baldassarre Longhena and was built as a thank you to the Madonna. by the Venetians for the end of the plague epidemic that mowed the population between 1630 and 1631.

Pass By: Isola San Giorgio Maggiore, 30133 Venice Italy

Always overlooking the San Marco Basin during our tour we skirt the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore.
It is a small island, where the majestic facade of the church of the same name stands, which was designed by Andrea Palladio.
The island was owned by a patrician family and after the construction of a church dedicated to San Giorgio it took the name of San Giorgio Maggiore to distinguish itself from San Giorgio in Alga.
Inside the basilica we find works of the highest artistic value such as the high altar created by Girolamo Campagna, two works by Tintoretto such as “The Last Supper” and the “Manna Collection” and the painting “Virgin with Child and Saints” by Sebastiano Ricci.
In 1951 the Italian government granted the use of the island’s facilities to the Giorgio Cini Foundation which currently hosts numerous exhibitions, events and concerts.

Pass By: San Servolo, 30126 Venice, Metropolitan City of Venice, Italy

After passing the San Marco Basin and sailing towards the Lido of Venice, you will coast two very characteristic and full of history islands.
The first island we meet is San Servolo, a delightful island in the southern lagoon. Between 1100 and 1600 the island was inhabited by Benedictine nuns. Subsequently, the rooms of the island and monastery were first used as a grain depot and from 1630 as a shelter for plague victims.
In 1700 it was transformed into a military hospital and then into a psychiatric hospital.
Currently the Island is also home to the Franca and Franco Basaglia Foundation, Venice International University, the AICCRE Training Center for European Project Planning, and is also a residence for doctoral students or in international exchange projects. Since 2008 the island has also hosted the branch of the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and since 2012 it has been the seat of the Ca ‘Foscari International College

Pass By: Isola di San Lazzaro degli Armeni, 30126 Venice Italy

The island of San Lazzaro degli Armeni is located opposite the Lido of Venice and is one of the first centers in the world of Armenian culture. It is totally occupied by a monastery, the mother house of the Mekhitarist order.
After various uses in the 1700s, it welcomed a brotherhood of Armenian fathers who fled their land due to an invasion by the Turks. And in 1717 it was given by the Republic of Venice to a group of Armenian monks who were also on the run.
From 1740, when the restoration of the various rooms was completed, the island was transformed into a center of culture and science whose goal was to keep the language, literature and traditions of the Armenian people alive.
The island of San Lazzaro is called “Armenia in miniature”, given the size of the area

Pass By: Lido di Venezia, Lido di Venezia, Veneto

Our tour continues along the island of Lido of Venice: it is a narrow and 12 km long strip of land that divides and protects the Venice Lagoon from the Adriatic Sea.
Together with Pellestrina and Sant’Erasmo it is one of the three islands where there are carriage roads.
The island of Lido di Venezia also hosts other locations including the ancient village of Malamocco which we find traces of in some texts since 840 and the village of Alberoni.
In 1800 it became one of the most popular seaside destinations for European aristocrats, this led to the construction of large luxury hotels such as the Hotel Excelsior and the Hotel des Bains. Subsequently these hotels were frequented by the aristocratic and bourgeois elite not only in Europe but worldwide.
The famous International Film Festival is still taking place on the Lido, at the Palazzo del Cinema.

Pass By: Sant’Andrea, 30141 Venice, Metropolitan City of Venice, Italy

Heading towards the north end of the Lido of Venice where the Lagoon meets the Adriatic Sea (Porto del Lido) we can admire the Fort of Sant’Andrea.
It is a fortress built in the 16th century where already ruined buildings existed that constituted the defensive outpost of the Lagoon. The work was designed by the Veronese architect Michele Sanmicheli, commissioned by the Venetian government to defend access from the most dangerous sea, blocking the path, with artillery, to a possible enemy fleet.
The most interesting architectural part is certainly the front where the central door and two arches with the same measures open.
On the front of the tower there is a plaque depicting the battle of Lepanto surmounted by a relief of the lion of San Marco.

Pass By: Isola delle Vignole, Vignole, Venice Italy

After crossing the Bocca di Porto our tour takes us to explore the North Lagoon.
The first island you cross is Le Vignole. This island, thanks to its fertile soils, has a very marked agrarian-lagoon denotation.
With two bridges it is connected to the island of Sant’Andrea where the homonymous Fort is located.

Stop At: Ellegi – Murano Glass Shop, Fondamenta San Giovanni dei battuti 4b/5, 30141 Murano Italy

The tour continues along the walls, the dry docks and the entrance to the Arsenale of Venice. An ancient complex of shipyards which constitutes a very large part of the city, at its eastern end. It was the heart of the Venetian naval industry from the twelfth century and is linked to the most prosperous period of the life of the Serenissima: thanks to the imposing ships built here, the Republic
Veneta managed to fight the Ottomans in the Aegean Sea and conquer the routes of Northern Europe.
The arsenal of Venice anticipated the idea of the naval industry for centuries with a sort of assembly line that numbered around 2000 workers.
