Cittadella was structured like the current town plan in 1220-21 by the Carraresi lord of Padua, who wanted to build a military and administrative strategic center within their territory. The position of the town is at the intersection of the road connecting Padua to Bassano and the directrix Vicenza-Treviso.

Stop At: Castello di Marostica, 36063 Marostica Italy

At the end of this morning visit, you will continue your day excursion to Marostica where you will have your lunch in a local trattoria (about 30mn driving distance).

In the afternoon you will have another walking guided tour at this pleasant little town. Marostica is presented as one of the most important medieval town of the Veneto region. It takes the appearance of a fortified town thanks to the Scaligeri, Lords of Verona. It consists of two castles: the upper castle on top of the hill that nowadays it is reduced in ruin, and the lower castle in perfect condition. The two castles are linked by two fortified walls. Overlooking the lower Castle, there is the Chess square where, since 1954, is re proposed a chess challenge with alive people and represents an important town festival, dressing traditional costumes of the fifteenth century. This event is held once every two years, in the first week of September. The next one is on 2020!

Time to return back to Venice. On your way, after about 30 minutes driving, you will make another stop for a coffee or tea break in the square of one of the biggest Venetian Villa.
