Beyond the gondola – the boats in Venice (tour to Murano included) – PRIVATE

Venezia Trip Overview

Venice=gondola. True or false? FALSE
If you like to know how things work, you’re a boat-lover, or have children to entertain, you’ll be interested in the different types of boat which plough through the waters and canals of Venice and its lagoon.
Apart from the car parks by the mainland bridge, and a private port area, all transport in Venice is by boat. And the more you think about it, the more difficulties that represents. Deliveries, emergency services, taxis – everything that is done on wheels in other cities must here be done by boat.
So boats are a major part of everyday life, not just for passenger transport but for pretty much everything else, too. This is very helpful for parents with children – architecture and churches might get boring, but who can get bored of boat-spotting?
Visit to a squero
Ride by vaporetto line n. 1 to Arsenale stop;
Visit of the Padiglione delle Navi
Ride from Arsenale to Giudecca Island by public “motoscafo” for a visit to Crea shipyard

Stop At: Cantiere Crea, Giudecca, 212, F, 30100 Venezia VE, Italy

The story of this shipyard is firmly linked to the story of the owner and founder, Mr. Vianello Gianfranco Crea, who made of excellence his main aim, starting with the sport. The sport? Yes; he won for 7 consecutive years Venice Historial Regatta, being therefore named “Re del Remo” (king of the oar). Then, after studying the art of carving, he applied it to his big passion: the boats. He started giving life to wonderful gondolas and other kind of traditional Venetian boats, well known for their technical excellence and magnificent beauty. The shipyard can be visited and so can his restaurant with a splendid view over the lagoon just above the shipyard itself.
