“La Baia in Fondo al Sentiero” is a project focused on ecotourism, nature conservation, environmental monitoring, and information for visitors that takes place in the Ieranto Bay – B Zone of the Protected Marine Area of Punta Campanella and FAI Reserve (Italian Foundation for the Environment).

The project protects this wonderful bay that hosts very important marine communities (Posidonia meadows, submarine caves, sandy and rocky bottoms) and terrestrial habitats. Since the Greeks and Romans, Ieranto bay has been a place reach in natural resources: trees for wood, wild fauna for hunting, land for agriculture, marine resource to harvest, and, until the last century, limestone for mineral mining. Now the bay is under protection and only ecotourism and scientific research is permitted. This project works to make this happen through a daily monitoring program to stop illegal fishing, boating and anchoring, spreading information and awareness about the Protected Marine Area (from July to October), studying the biological and physical phenomenons in the bay (year-round).
