Pass By: Abbazia San Michele Arcangelo, Terra Murata, 80079 Procida Italy

Imposing and millenary, the Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo stands on the promontory of Terra Murata at about 91 meters overlooking the sea.
Due to its strategic position, the village of Terra Murata constituted the first inhabited nucleus of the island following the barbarian invasions and subsequent Saracen raids. In 1563, at the behest of Cardinal Innico D’Avalos d’Aragona, lord and commendatory abbot of the island, “la Terra” was equipped with an imposing and articulated defensive system with walls and watchtowers and renamed Terra Murata or land surrounded by walls, assuming a structure that can still be traced today. The life of the village took place all around the Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo. Born as a Benedictine monastery, the church was founded in 1026 and dedicated to the cult of Sant’Angelo. Only later, presumably at the end of the 15th century, was it dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel, patron saint of the island.

Stop At: Vivara, 80079 Procida Metropolitan City of Naples, Italy

Vivara Island is one of the three islands that form the Phlegraean archipelago today. It is connected with Procida, the largest island, by means of a bridge that acts as a support for the Campania aqueduct pipelines that supply Procida and Ischia.
Originally, and probably still in the Roman Age, Vivara was however connected, through a cliff high above the sea (approximately as much as today’s bridge), to the promontory of Santa Margherita di Procida and therefore formed a crescent-shaped offshoot, taking place in north-south direction and enclosing a large and sheltered circular area, mostly occupied by an expanse of pebbles and sand. This area has now completely sunk below sea level and is occupied by the stretch of water called the Gulf of Genito. Here we will anchor for a break to relax to the rhythm of music, a few dives, an aperitif with fresh fruit and limoncello.
