Stop At: Temple of Apollo (Tempio di Apollo), Piazza Pancali Ortygia, Syracuse, Sicily Italy
The ruins of the temple of Apollo welcome us to the enchanting island of Ortigia. Of the temple remains the base, part of the cell and the columns, two of which are still standing. A small window, created when the Templar building was changed into a Christian church, frames the fish market that we certainly cannot miss. Fresh fish, fruit, vegetables, cheeses and meats will delight our senses!

Piazza Duomo is located in the heart of Ortigia and occupies the highest part of it. The cathedral, the church of Santa Lucia alla badia and the baroque noble palaces that surround the square tell us about a thousand-year history, which began in the Greek age and never ended.

Already present in the eighth century. B.C. the Arethusa spring is the reason why the Greeks decided to found the rich and powerful city of Syracuse here. Inside the Arethusa spring, the wild papyrus still grows today, a protected plant that in this particular species grows only here and in Egypt.
