Siena Trip Overview
Follow us inside the rolling Tuscan landscape, amidst wine, art, Middle Ages, Renaissance and history visiting Cortona and “the secret underground cellars” of Montepulciano. You will taste the best wines of our Region and meal with a typical tuscan lunch. The beautiful and untouched landscape is the absolute protagonist in Val d’ Orcia. This area of Tuscany boasts of endless rolling hills covered with grain or sunflowers, a rich green valley which encompasses the Orcia river. First we will explore the South of Tuscany and visit the Medieval town of Cortona. Later we’ll visit the “Underground Wonders” of Montepulciano (The Historic Cellars of the city) where you will find gigantic oak barrels, in which the famous Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG “rest”. In Montepulciano we’ll have also a first and a second wine tasting experience in two differerent cellars, with a delicious tuscan lunch. (Pecorino cheese, bruschettas, ham, cold cuts, always with the best wines of our Region).

What to Expect When Visiting Siena, Tuscany, Italy

Stop At: Cortona, Cortona, Province of Arezzo, Tuscany
Our english speaking Driver-escort will pick you up at your location (hotel, b&b or private apartment) and take you on a drive through the hills of Tuscany. First stop in Cortona (1.30 hrs free visit)
Cortona is a traditional walled Etruscan town. Sitting at about 600 metres above sea level, it offers spectacular views over the surrounding valley and Lake Trasimeno.
The main things I recommend you seek out in the town center are:
– Piazza della Repubblica, Cortona’s historical center
– Cortona’s pretty medieval streets
– Piazza Signorelli
– Cortona’s beautiful shops

Stop At: Montepulciano, Montepulciano, Tuscany
Later we will drive ’till Montepulciano to visit the “Underground Wonders” of the town. We will visit the main square of the town, the old Governament Palace and two Historic Cellars: here you will find gigantic oak barrels, in which the famous Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG and the Rosso di Montepulciano DOC “rest”. In Montepulciano will have two wine tasting experiences, in two differerent cellars with lunch included.

In Montepulciano : Light Lunch, wine tasting and Tour inside the Historic Cellar of Talosa: – Guided tour o Historical Cellar; – Rosso di Montepulciano Doc; – Nobile di Montepulciano Docg; – Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Docg; – Nobile di Montepulciano “Filai Lunghi” Docg or IGT “Pietrose” Super Tuscan; – Lasagna ,Cannelloni, Ribollita, Pappa al pomodoro, Panzanella, Speld salad (to be agree days before); – Pecorino cheese from Pienza; – Typical Tuscan cold cuts (prosciutto, loin, salami). Talosa is a historic and spectacular winery in the heart of Montepulciano, excavated in the old town. Its tunnels dug into the ancient rock both open to the large rooms where the Nobile wine rests.

Second wine tasting experience in Contucci Cellar. As far back as the Renaissance the Contucci family were cultivating the grape and by 1700 this activity of theirs’ was much appreciated. In fact they were one of the “founding fathers” of Vino Nobile, as is documented in 1773; having a major role in making it world famous: “a noble wine destined for the table of nobles”. At the end of the second tasting we will return to your location. At the end of the visit we’ll come back to your location.
