What makes 4×4 tour of Orgosolo: Murals and typical lunch at the shepherd’s a unique experience ?
Starting point Orosei towards Orgosolo, one of the most important towns in Barbagia for the richness of its traditions and for its numerous murals, originally painted as a protest tool, which adorn small streets and squares, houses in the historic center and facades of new buildings in this small village in central Sardinia, with an invaluable natural and cultural heritage. The inhabited center is located about 600 meters above sea level on the slopes of Mount Lisorgoni, offshoot of the Gennargentu massif and we will reach it on board our Land Rovers. Around the spectacular and impervious landscape of the Supramonte of Orgosolo, for centuries a refuge for bandits and shepherds, where our excursion continues immersed in the wild and unspoiled nature of the heart of Barbagia.
Visit to one of the largest and best preserved Giants’ Tombs in Barbagia to talk about the Nuragic civilization that inhabited these places 3500 years ago.
After passing the pastures of Pratobello, with a short walk we reach the limestone heels of Monte Novo San Giovanni at 1316 m. with the
hope to come across a wild cat, a Bonelli eagle and a peregrine falcon.
Surrounded by millenary holm oaks, we will have the opportunity to taste some typical dishes of our pastoral tradition for lunch in “Su Pinnetu”, an ancient traditional sheepfold of Supramonte. As per tradition, the shepherd and his family will prepare the boiled sheep and the roast suckling pig (“Su Porcheddu”) which we will accompany with the famous Cannonau wine and the “Filu ‘e Ferru” (Sardinian brandy) to finish the our hearty meal with a nice portion of a memorable pecorino cheese.
Those who pass by Orgosolo cannot fail to stop and observe the beautiful and many murals that color the walls of the town. They tell the history and culture of the town of Orgosolo and Sardinia from a unique point of view that only art can do.
