Basilica San Francesco d’Assisi, a must see.
Having been proclaimed a Saint in 1228 by Gregory IX that the next day I laid the first stone of the current Basilica, it was finished on May 25th 1230.
Looking at it from a distance it looks like a medieval stronghold but, in reality, there are 2 superimposed churches. The Lower and Upper Basilica is also a crypt with the tomb of San Francesco d’Assisi.

Tempio della Minerva with its splendid columns, believed to have been built in the 1st century BC.

This “Portiuncula” church was one of the first three to be restored by San Francesco who made it the center of Franciscanism.
