A beautiful renaissance residence built by the architect Pirro Ligorio for Cardinal Ippolito d’ Este, son of Alfonso d’ Este duke of Ferrara and Lucrezia Borgia, daughter of the terrible Spanish Pope Alessandro VI Borgia. The villa is characterized by sloping terraces and hanging gardens with numerous fountains supplied by three aqueducts.
