Stop At: Borgo di Ceri, Piazza Immacolata, 00052 Ceri, Cerveteri Italy
On the site now occupied by the medieval village of Ceri, a small settlement was built in the Etruscan period directly controlled by the nearby metropolis of Cerveteri. The Etruscan village of Ceri enjoyed a certain well-being determined by the exploitation of the surrounding fertile land: proof of this is the necropolis discovered downstream of the town in the locality of Le Fornaci, which has returned some examples of chamber tombs among which the best known is the Tomb of the Statues. The danger of looting by Saracen pirates during the early Middle Ages led to a new phase in the life of the village, naturally defended by a steep cliff. In the town square stands the Church of the Madonna di Ceri, which houses interesting frescoes from the early 12th century attributed to the same important painters who worked on the decoration of the first Basilica of San Clemente in Rome. The majestic tuff cliff is dominated by Palazzo Torlonia, now used for events and receptions.

Stop At: Necropoli della Banditaccia, Via della Necropoli 43/45, 00052, Cerveteri Italy
The visit of the site takes 2 and a half hours. Located on a tufaceous plateau, the Banditaccia necropolis was used as early as the 7th century. B.C. Inside there are several sectors, which reflect the different nuclei in which the necropolis was to be divided in its long period of life, up to the first century. B.C. Particularly striking here are the imposing circular mounds, the “cube” tombs, which are arranged along the Via Sepolcrale Principale and the minor streets. Other sectors of the necropolis are those of the motorway where there is a homogeneous group of hypogeal tombs of the fourth century. B.C. To the left of the motorway is the Tomb of the Five Chairs. To the right of the same street, in front of the entrance to the enclosure, there is another sepulchral area with chamber tombs and mounds from the Orientalizing period. The name of Laghetto indicates the hill located at the E edge of the central-eastern area of the plateau, where two sectors have been identified, called Laghetto I and II.
