The first stop in Florence will be Piazza Santa Croce. The centerpiece of this square is the Basilica di Santa Croce, one of the most important Franciscan churches in Italy. Commonly known as Il Duomo, this iconic cathedral is renowned for its distinctive dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, which is considered an architectural masterpiece of the Renaissance. It is famous for its red-tiled dome, the marble façade, and Giotto’s bell tower.
This spectacular temple from the 15th century is a Dominican church with frescoes by Gothic and early Renaissance masters.
Walk over the Vecchio Bridge and discover the history behind the shops that line both sides. They are built on the bridge and have historically been used by merchants, especially jewelers and goldsmiths. The tents are suspended over the river and are supported by columns.
Piazza della Signoria is the central square of Florence, in Tuscany, Italy. It is the seat of civil power with the “Old Palace” and is the heart of the city’s social life.
