Stop At: Chiesa di Santa Maria del Popolo, Piazza del Popolo 12 Campo Marzio, 00187 Rome Italy

Meet the local guide who will accompany you to discover Caravaggio’s masterpieces.
This is where the tour begins: inside the church, one of the oldest in Rome, admire the “Crucifixion of St. Peter” and the “Conversion of St. Paul” in the Cerasi Chapel, a key place for learning about the art of the first years of the Roman seventeenth century.

Stop At: Basilica S. Agostino, Piazza di S. Agostino, 00186 Rome Italy

In one of the first churches built in the Renaissance there is the “Madonna di Loreto”, one of Caravaggio’s most famous masterpieces as well as emblem of his lifestyle. This canvas was in fact donated to the church by the artist himself as a thank you for the refuge granted to him following a duel.

Stop At: Church of St. Louis of the French, Piazza San Luigi de’ Francesi, 00186 Rome Italy

In the sumptuous national church of the French in Rome, inside the Contarelli Chapel there are three absolute masterpieces by Caravaggio: the “Martyrdom of St. Matthew”, “St. Matthew and the Angel” and the “Vocation of St. Matthew”. The cycle of San Matteo highlights Caravaggio’s pictorial language and the style that still distinguishes him today.

Stop At: Ladispoli, Ladispoli, Province of Rome, Lazio

Arrived on the coasts of Ladispoli, the place where the great Maestro Caravaggio landed and arrested, enjoy a fish brunch in a seaside restaurant set up with Caravaggesque reproductions of the artist Sergio Bonaface, after which he meets the second local guide to discover the places where Caravaggio spent his last hours following a daring escape by sea after a bloody duel.

Stroll along the Lazio seafront to the place where the only bronze statue of Caravaggio stands, also the work of the artist Sergio Bonaface and then continue, by land or by beach (depending on the weather conditions) to the Odescalchi Castle in Palo Lazio, where Caravaggio found refuge.
Return to Rome.
