The Villa Borghese Pinciana, was built to be a museum, a place of culture, for the exhibition of exemplary images of ancient and modern art, for music, studies in a small library, but also for the contemplation of nature (with rare plants and animals), the merits of its architecture are attributable to Flaminio Ponzio, trusted architect of the Pope and the Cardinal. From the Villa you managed a farm with vineyards, vegetable gardens, hunting, stables, remnants, pigeon houses in the towers (of which accesses are still visible), a large aviary, an ice reservoir, the wine cave and even the silkworm culture. The rich Borghese collection consists of sculptures, bas-reliefs and ancient mosaics, as well as paintings and sculptures from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century. The collection, initially made up of Cardinal Scipione Borghese at the beginning of the seventeenth century, preserves masterpieces by Antonello da Messina, Giovanni Bellini, Raphael, Tiziano, Correggio, Caravaggio and splendid sculptures by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Canova.
