Ravello was founded by Romans in search of a safe place during the period of instability due to the barbarian invasions.
From the 9th century it was first part of the Duchy of Amalfi and then of the Maritime Republic of Amalfi.
From the twelfth century onwards the decline of the city begins and will last until the nineteenth century when the Bourbons built the coastal road and when it became a destination of the grand tour, attracting personalities such as Greta Garbo, D.H. Lawrence, Richard Wagner, Winston Churchill, Virginia Woolf.
Ravello has inspired poets and writers, such as Giovanni Boccaccio who dedicated a short story to him in the Decameron
Today Ravello is known as the “City of Music” for the many musical events of international appeal, including the Ravello Festival, which attract enthusiasts to the place.
The appointment is at 10:00 in Piazza Vescovado di Ravello at the foot of the steps of the Cathedral of San Pantaleone.
During the tour there is a visit to the Duomo and Villa Rufolo, whose entrance is subject to a fee.
