Itinerary

Stop At: City Centre, Piazza Danti, 06121, Perugia Italy

Meet the guide at 9.30 and walk through the tunnels of the impressive Rocca Paolina fortress. Enjoy Carducci gardens viewpoint before heading to Corso Vannucci, the main pedestrian street of Perugia, full of bars and cafes enclosed in beautiful old buildings. The first stop is at “Sandri”, one of the oldest pastry shop/cafè in town. Here you can enjoy an Italian breakfast with a hot drink accompanied by a delicious cake at your choice and contemplate the amazing architecture of Priori’s Palace.

From here you will get to the main square of Perugia, the heart of the city. Many of the higlights of the old town are here. Your guide will explain you about the gothic Priori’s Palace (home of the city’s government), the cathedral of St Lawrence and the spectacular Maggiore Fountain, symbol of Perugia and masterpiece of medieval sculpture.

From the square, you will walk to Porta Sole, the highest point of the city, where you will enjoy stunning views over the northern part of  Perugia, the medieval wall and the green countryside of Umbria. A short walk on a stairway and you will admire the imposing 23 centuries old Etruscan arch, restored and decorated by the roman emperor Augusto 40 years before Christ. Here you will have the chance to taste some great hand-made chocolate samples  at a small family ran shop.

After this “sweet break” you will walk next to the Etruscan wall, along a panoramic street with views on the medieval aqueduct of Perugia. Through some narrow alleys you will reach the final destination of the tour: again the city centre where you could have a light lunch for tasting the typical flatbread called “Torta al testo”.
