Itinerary

Day 1: Naples: Sansevero Chapel – S. Chiara – Spaccanapoli – Pio Monte – Cathedral

Stop At: Museo Cappella Sansevero, Via Francesco De Sanctis, 19/21, 80134, Naples Italy
This morning at 8:30 there will be a briefing at the lobby of our hotel in Naples. We will collect your travel insurance details, introduce ourselves, and review the itinerary.

We then begin our walking tour in Naples, visiting the main sites in the historical center, Spaccanapoli: we first visit the Sansevero Chapel, where the Veiled Christ and other sculpted masterpieces are on display.

Our second stop is the Piazza San Domenico Maggiore to sip a Neapolitan coffee before entering the Santa Chiara Church with its Cloister, the Roman baths, and a small museum. We then visit San Biagio dei Librai and walk along Via San Gregorio Armeno where we can see local artisans in their workshops making Nativity figurines.

Nearby is the Napoli Sotterranea with the rest of the Roman Market to visit, just before having a break for lunch.

After lunch, we head to the museum Pio Monte della Misericordia, famous for its Neapolitan art and one of Caravaggio’s most important paintings: The Seven Works of Mercy.

The last stop will be the 13th-century Cathedral of San Gennaro. San Gennaro (Saint Januarius) the patron saint of Naples.

Walk back to the hotel and enjoy a free night at your own leisure.

You will see the main Church, the Cloister with the Library, the Roman Baths and the Museum.

Stop At: Spaccanapoli, Via Benedetto Croce, Naples Italy
We will walk into the historical center of Naples, called Spaccanapoli.

Stop At: Pio Monte della Misericordia, Via dei Tribunali 253, Naples Italy
There’s the Royal Chapel with The 7 works of Mercy from Caravaggio and then an art Gallery on the first floor.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Duomo di Napoli, Via Duomo 149, 80138, Naples Italy
The last stop will be the 13th-century Cathedral of San Gennaro. San Gennaro (Saint Januarius) the patron saint of Naples.

Day 2: Naples: Archaeological Museum – San Martino Chartreuse – Royal Palace

Stop At: Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli, Piazza Museo Nazionale 19, 80135, Naples Italy
After breakfast, we start our second day of exploration by visiting the National Archaeological Museum known for its collection of Roman antiquities. Their collections feature items excavated from Pompeii, Herculaneum and other archaeological sites around Mount Vesuvius. A highlight is a visit to the Secret Cabinet of erotic art from Pompeii and Herculaneum.

After our museum visit, we walk to Dante Square and visit the local daily market of the Pignasecca and sample fried pizza before hopping on the funicular to reach the Chartreuse and Museum of San Martino and the Castle. From here you will have an amazing view of Mount Vesuvius, the city of Naples and its harbor.

We head back down and reach Plebiscito Square, where the Royal Palace is located and have a guided tour.

Return to the hotel and we meet for an included group dinner.

Stop At: Certosa e Museo di San Martino Napoli, Largo San Martino 5, 80129, Naples Italy
After lunch we hope on a funicular and reach the San Martino Chartreuse and its Museum and after the Sant’Elmo Castle.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Palazzo Reale, Piazza del Plebiscito 1, 80132, Naples Italy
We reach Piazza Plebiscito and visit the Royal Palace, where the Kings of Naples used to live. A local guide will tell you about this place.
Duration: 2 hours

Day 3: Naples: Capodimonte Museum – Saint Januarius Catacumbs

Stop At: Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte, Via Miano 2, 80131, Naples Italy
In the morning we head to one of Italy’s largest art museums, the National Museum of Capodimonte. Housed in a Baroque palace, Capodimonte has an extensive collection of Neapolitan and decorative art.

Lunch at a local osteria.

In the afternoon we visit the nearby Catacombs of San Gennaro for a guided tour of its 2nd-century underground cemetery.

Transfer back to the hotel and have the rest of the evening free to relax or explore Naples at night on your own.

In the afternoon we visit the nearby Catacombs of San Gennaro for a guided tour of its 2nd-century underground cemetery.
Duration: 2 hours

Day 4: Naples: Flavian Amphitheatre – Roman Bath of Baia – End of tour

Stop At: Flavian Amphitheater, Corso Nicola Terracciano 75, 80078, Pozzuoli Italy
After breakfast, we check out of our hotel and drive to Pozzuoli to visit the Flavian Amphitheater, the third largest Roman amphitheater in Italy. Built during the reign of Emperor Vespasian, it can hold up to 50,000 spectators. Here the Patron Saint of Naples, San Gennaro (Saint Januarius) was beheaded and buried. For this reason, none of the ruins were touched and you are free to explore everywhere. Walk in the tunnels where gladiators and beasts waited before fighting for their lives in the arena.

We then head to the nearby Archaeological Park of Terme di Baia, which was where Roman aristocracy kept villas and spa facilities. The local natural springs of warm water and sulfurous steam coming from the volcanic subsoil attracted Roman nobility and emperors. The poet Horace wrote at the end of the first century BC that “no Gulf in the world is as splendid as that of Baia”.

Farewell lunch at a local Locanda where we raise a final toast to our Naples holiday.

We then head to the nearby Archaeological Park of Terme di Baia, which was where Roman aristocracy kept villas and spa facilities. The poet Horace wrote at the end of the first century BC that “no Gulf in the world is as splendid as that of Baia”.

Farewell lunch at a local Locanda where we raise a final toast to our Naples holiday.
