Once a thriving and sophisticated Roman city, Pompeii was buried under meters of ash and pumice from the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. The site is constantly evolving thanks to continuous excavations that offer new discoveries every year. A professional private guide is highly recommended to be able to visit it in detail, relaxing in its most important structures.
