You will see the castle defences: the ravelins (protective fortifications built in front of the gates), the remains of a great wall called “Ghirlanda”, and the two moats of the castle: the original moat that defended the city walls when the Visconti Castle was under construction and the one dividing the Courtyard of Arms from the Ducal Courtyard and the Rocchetta, now referred to as the dead moat.
