The most important center on the Lake is Como, with its valuable monuments, the pretty old town and the suggestive views. You will take a stroll with your tour guide around the city and then you will have the chance to enjoy a wider panorama by taking the funicular that connects Como to Brunate.

Almost four hundred years were employed by the Como workers for the construction of the Cathedral, started in 1396, whose facade is still one of the most remarkable examples of late Gothic in northern Italy. Built to replace a previous structure, always dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, the works for its construction ended in the first half of the eighteenth century with the construction of the dome designed by Filippo Juvarra. Of particular interest is the facade made between 1455 and 1486 and enriched with sculptural decorations, work largely of Giovanni Rodari’s workshop which was responsible for the authorship of the two podiums with the statues of Pliny the Younger and Pliny the Elder.

In the mid-nineteenth century the property was donated to Carlotta of Prussia on the occasion of the wedding with George II of Sachsen-Meiningen; the latter, a botanical enthusiast, worked hard to enrich the vast landscaped garden. In April and May villa Carlotta offers an authentic sea of ​​multicolored azaleas, arranged in high rounded cushions along some paths.
