What makes Lecce Private Tour of the Must-see Sites with Top-rated Guide a unique experience ?
This is where you will meet your guide at the beginning of the tour: in the very heart of the historical center.
The Duomo, overlooking the square, is surrounded by important buildings such as the bell tower, the Bishop’s Palace and the seminary. Its facade is a great example of Lecce Baroque style. The interior is characterized by an altar and various paintings dedicated to Sant’Oronzo, the patron saint of Lecce.
See from outside the bell tower of the Lecce Duomo, which is 72 meters high and is made in lecce stone. Its most peculiar characteristic is the dome at the top, which is covered with colorful majolica tiles.
Piazza Sant’Oronzo, formerly known as the Square of Merchants, is dedicated to the patron saint who is said to have protected the area from the plague. See the remains of the Roman amphitheater in the square, which was discovered in the early 20th century.
This is the first Baroque style building in Lecce and dates back to the 16th century, when it was built to house the relics of the True Cross. Its facade features rich, almost excessive decorations, among which stands out the elaborate rose window.
The city gate of Lecce was built in the 16th century by Gian Giacomo dell’Acaja and is inspired by the traditional Roman triumphal architecture.
This obelisk was designed by architect Gian Giacomo dell’Acaya in 1822 for King Ferdinand I. It was built with Lecce stone, a material characterized by a golden glow when illuminated by the sun. This famous landmark is where our tour will end.
