Stop At: Portovenere, 19025, Porto Venere Italy

Often overlooked but arguably the most beautiful of the coastal villages of the area, Portovenere is also the most ancient, with such historic wonders as the Church of St. Peter that perches almost camouflaged atop the sheer rock face at the westernmost point of the town, and the dominating Doria Castle that overlooks the village.

UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the Cinque Terre

Duration: 50 minutes

Pass By: Riomaggiore, Riomaggiore, Cinque Terre, Italian Riviera, Liguria

As we continue to cruise up along the coast, the first of the Cinque Terre villages that we will come across is Riomaggiore. With brightly colored houses built vertically up the surrounding hills, Riomaggiore is the second largest of the five villages and is widely known for excellent diving spots off it’s coast in the protected marine area that stretches all along the Cinque Terre. Here you will also see where the world famous Via del Amore walking path starts, leading to neighboring Manarola.

Pass By: Manarola, Manarola, Cinque Terre, Italian Riviera, Liguria

A short ride up the coast, and we find Manarola, which sits on the other end of the Via del Amore and is part of the municipality of Riomaggiore. Known for its wine production, Manarola produces the unique dessert wine called Sciacchetrà which can only be found in this area.

Pass By: Corniglia, Corniglia, Cinque Terre, Italian Riviera, Liguria

The coastline between Manarola and Corniglia is full of hidden treasures we will explore before reach the middle village of the Cinque Terre. Sitting 100 meters high on a cliff face, Corniglia is the only of the villages without a harbor and features a panoramic terrace where you can see Manarola and Riomaggiore to the south and Vernazza and Monterosso to the north

Stop At: Vernazza, Vernazza, Cinque Terre, Italian Riviera, Liguria

Next up is Vernazza which is the smallest of the Cinque Terre, and commonly known as the most charming with a beautiful little harbor and the Church of St. Margaret of Antioch that sits right on the water. Here you will also see the Belforte Tower that sits right on the harbor as a beacon of protection for the tiny village.

Duration: 50 minutes

Pass By: Monterosso al Mare, Monterosso al Mare, Cinque Terre, Italian Riviera, Liguria

The northern most village of the Cinque Terre is Monterosso, which is separated into two sides: the historic center and the “new” side called Fegina, with a pedestrian tunnel connecting the two. Monterosso is more sprawling than the other villages and is the only one that offers beach services, therefore making it the most visited of the Cinque Terre.
