The Baptistery of Pisa (Battistero di San Giovanni) is a Roman Catholic ecclesiastical building in Pisa, Italy. Construction started in 1152 to replace an older baptistery, and when it was completed in 1363, it became the second building, in chronological order, in the Piazza dei Miracoli, near the Duomo di Pisa and the cathedral’s free-standing campanile, the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. The baptistery was designed by Diotisalvi, whose signature can be read on two pillars inside the building, with the date 1153.

Leaving Pisa, with an easy 30 minutes ride you will reach Lucca, a city with a multitude of old churches, little piazzas, towers, and shops. This is a town where you can dispense with a map and simply walk or, like the locals, cycle.
Lucca, the birthplace of Giacomo Puccini, is a perfectly preserved medieval town, which makes it ideal for exploring on foot and a walk along the ramparts will reward you with lovely views of the narrow streets, elegant Palaces and Romanesque churches.
The town is also noted for its medieval squares, particularly the unusual oval shaped main Piazza which was originally a Roman Amphitheatre.
One of the most beautiful experiences that you can have during your visit in Lucca is the walk on the City Walls. From this uncommon point of view, you can admire all the town and the beautiful landscape around.
