In ancient times this must have been a small karst cavity formed over the millennia, favored by marine erosion, but following the collapse of the top of the cave, this was given the sinister name of “Pozzo del Diavolo”
Its wild soul immediately emerges from one feature: in fact, it cannot be reached on foot, not even through those secret paths that are often known only among residents. To visit it you have to get there exclusively by swimming, canoe or boat: its curious name would derive from the fact that “40 rowing” are necessary starting from the nearby landings; according to another version, however, the 40 oars would be a measure of its length. This cove is usually our favorite for swimming!
