What makes Up To Piazzale Michelangelo a unique experience ?
Ponte Vecchio is the most famous bridge in Florence.
It earned its name, “Old Bridge,” by surviving a long and exciting history. Ponte Vecchio was the only bridge across the Arno in Florence until 1218. It’s possible that the bridge existed in some form during the Roman Empire, but it was first recorded as being a defensive structure in Medieval Italy. The current bridge was rebuilt after a flood in 1345. During World War II it was the only bridge across the Arno that the fleeing Germans did not destroy.
The bridge, built of stone and wood, crosses the most narrow point of the Arno River and connects the City Center to the district of Oltrarno. The structure is such an anomaly because it doubles as a marketplace for gold goods & fine jewelry.
Ponte Vecchio is an international tourist destination and a place of business for some of the finest artisans in Italy and the recognizable Rolex. The best view of the bridge & its multi-colored buildings is from a boat trip along Arno River.
The Piazzale Michelangelo is a 19th century square by Giuseppe Poggi and is full of replicas of Michelangelo statues, including a second copy of the David. This piazza has undoubtedly the best panoramic view of Florence. The Piazza is located on a hill, giving you a beautiful 360-degree view of Florence and the surrounding area. You are looking at the city that gave birth to incredible artists, amazing scientists and enthralling history of discovery and power that has filled novels and movie theatres. Take photos of the winding river Arno, the Ponte Vecchio, the Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery, the Santa Croce basilica and the Duomo.
Enjoy the view over the Florentine skyline and the Tuscan hills.
