From here you go up to Piazzale Michelangelo, the terrace that reveals a unique view of the Renaissance city. Piazzale Michelangelo was built in the nineteenth century as a tribute to the creativity of the great Florentine sculptor Michelangelo Buonarroti. At the center of the large square stand the nineteenth-century reproductions of the most important sculptural works of the immense Genius, including the famous David. We will continue on a further staircase to visit the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte, a pearl, a Romanesque Basilica on the slope. The view of Florence from the San Miniato hill is stunning. Another place to visit in San Miniato is the Cemetery of the Holy Doors, a monumental graveyard where rests, among other great Florentines, also Carlo Collodi, the writer of the tale of Pinocchio
