Piazza del Duomo (“Cathedral Square”) is located in the heart of the historic center of Florence, (Tuscany – Italy). It is one of the most visited places in Europe and the world and in Florence, the most visited area of the city. The square contains the Florence Cathedral with the Cupola del Brunelleschi, the Giotto’s Campanile, the Florence Baptistery, the Loggia del Bigallo, the Opera del Duomo Museum, and the Arcivescovile and Canonici’s palace. The west zone of this square is called Piazza San Giovanni.

Opera del Duomo Museum: the greatest treasures from the Cathedral Complex are brilliantly displayed in this incredible Museum. Take a step back in time and explore Florence of the past in the huge hall of the museum where we’ll see a life-size reconstruction of the Cathedral Facade as it was in the early Renaissance, decorated with original sculpture by early masters including Donatello. The space is also the reconstruction of the original square between the Duomo and the Baptistery with the original bronze doors by Lorenzo Ghiberti. Learn the secrets behind one of the last sculptures of Michelangelo intended to be placed on his own tomb and learn why he attacked it with the hammer.

Step inside one of the oldest monuments of Florence with its dazzling original 12th-century golden mosaics, the very place where Dante himself was baptised. Even nowadays the Baptistery maintains its original religious function: Florentines still baptise their children in its 13th-century baptismal font. Learn the story behind the bronze doors of the Baptistery, famous for giving the start to the Renaissance and how Michelangelo himself admired the so-called “Gates of Paradise” by Lorenzo Ghiberti. Stop At: Giotto’s Bell Tower, Piazza del Duomo, 50122 Firenze FI, Italy
(By your own without Guide) The bell tower of Santa Maria del Fiore was begun by Giotto in 1334, carried on after his death by Andrea Pisano, and finished in 1359 by Francesco Talenti, who created the large windows at the upper levels. The sculptural decoration of the tower is extremely rich: 56 relief carvings in two registers, and 16 life-size statues in the niches, all by Florentine masters of the l4th and l5th century (among whom Andrea Pisano, Donatello, Luca Della Robbia).
