Departing from the centre of Florence in a luxury vehicle with private driver, it’s not long before we’re skimming through the rolling hills, olive groves and vineyards of the Tuscan countryside.

Our first stop takes us to a designer cellar created by one of the great masters of modern architecture, a perfect blend of tradition and innovation. We descend via a magnificent spiral staircase that leads deep into the hillside 20m below, where a tasting table awaits with two IGP white wines, a Chianti Classico and a Chianti Classico Reserve to sample in the most evocative of settings.

We follow the humble grape’s journey from vineyard to vat, and barrel to bottle; enjoy a tasting session of locally produced olive oil and balsamic vinegar; and indulge in a tasty light lunch with a selection of Tuscan dishes accompanied by four limited-production wines. Before leaving, we also visit the so-called ‘nursery’: a special collection of wines, some of which can be found on the legendary wine list of three-star Michelin restaurant Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence!

After taking some time to relax and enjoy the breathtaking view, we set off for the fortified hilltop town of San Gimignano and enter a storybook world of medieval towers, ancient feuds and richly preserved culture. There’s still one more tasting session to go, however, with a gelato from the tiny gelateria that won a world championship.
