Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Stop At: Ragusa Ibla, 97100, Ragusa, Sicily Italy
We end up with the visit of the beautiful Piazza Duomo of Ragusa Ibla, with its baroque Church of San Giorgio, which represents the main square of Vigata, the imaginary village of Montalbano.
The view of Ibla with the dome of the illuminated Cathedral appears behind Montalbano in the episode A blade of light, when the Commissioner, guest of the issuer of Vigata Rete Libera, issues an interview.
The Cathedral of San Giorgio and the square of Ragusa Ibla return in many episodes of the TV series. Whenever the Commissioner stops in the central square or in the Church of Madre di Vigata we admire the superb baroque style of Ragusa Ibla, its square and the Duomo.
The church of Santa Maria delle Scale, the staircase and the magnificent panorama of Ragusa Ibla are the backdrop to a mugger in the episode “Gatto e Cardellino”.
The Circolo di Conversazione, overlooking Piazza Duomo, is the place where Montalbano often breaks cabbasisi to doctor Pasquano playing cards. Many scenes are filmed inside and outside the Circle. In the episode “La luna di carta” the Commissioner enters the smoky rooms of the Club, among notables and rich people of Vigata playing cards, and meets the annoyed Pasquano who with fake courtesy and ironic jokes answers Montalbano’s questions.
The Giardino Ibleo is located not far from the restaurant da Calogero. In Vigata the municipal garden becomes an elegant nursing home where Montalbano goes to the episode La luna di carta. In the tree-lined garden paths, the Commissioner meets an old thief who shows a key to find out what he can open.
