What makes Panoramic Tour of Brindisi in Ape Calessino a unique experience ?

The tour begins with a visit to the internal tourist port of the city of Brindisi. The port of Brindisi is one of the most important tourist, commercial and industrial ports in the Adriatic Sea and its history is closely linked to Rome, as we will see from the columns considered terminals of the Appian Way. During the panoramic tour of the port it will be possible to admire the beauty of the city seafront and the Monument to the Italian Sailor which emerges from the other side of the city.

The route of the itinerary includes a short initial stop at the Fountain of the Empire in Brindisi. The monumental fountain stands at the foot of Piazza Santa Teresa and was dedicated in 1940 to Duce Benito Mussolini.

We will reach the characteristic Temple of San Giovanni al Sepolcro, clear evidence of the close relationship between the city of Brindisi and the Holy Land. The structure appears to be the most faithful replica of the Anastasis rotunda in Jerusalem. Circular in shape, it preserves some frescoes inside, representing saints and sacred scenes.
During the stop, it will also be possible to explore the temple and the internal garden.

We will reach the majestic Cathedral of Brindisi, or the Basilica of San Giovanni Battista, of which the first stone was laid by Pope Urban II in 1089. Inside are visible the few fragments of the mosaic floor of 1178, the wooden choir of 1594 by by local carvers, the 16th century baptismal font and many valuable paintings from various periods. A chapel is dedicated to the relics of San Teodoro, Patron Saint of the city together with San Lorenzo.
It is flanked by the cathedral, the bell tower, the bishop’s palace and the seminary building.

We will reach the Roman Columns of Brindisi, the historical symbol of the city, which represent the terminal part of the Via Appia Antica.
During the panoramic stop, it will be possible to admire, from the top of the Scalinata Virgiliana, the beauty of the city on the sea and the seafront of the tourist port of Brindisi.

The panoramic itinerary includes traveling through Piazza Santa Teresa, an important testimony in Baroque style and the historical site of the Theresian convent.
It will also be possible to admire the War Memorial created during the 1930s by the Brindisi artist Edgardo Simone in memory of the approximately 500 Brindisi fallen in the First World War.

We will reach the sixteenth-century Palazzo Granafei Nervegna, a building characterized by a Renaissance façade with Baroque influences, in particular in the elements of the stone balconies.
During the stop, it will be possible to admire the fascinating original capital of the Roman columns up close.

We will reach the archaeological excavations of San Pietro degli Schiavoni, to discover a vast archaeological area, rich in elements and finds from the ancient Roman city. The archaeological area includes a neighborhood of the Roman city, in which the remains of domus with mosaic floors are also clearly identifiable.
During the stop it will be possible to explore the internal route of the excavations.
