This excursion includes an itinerary in stages to let you know and appreciate places of particular natural value within the reserve of the Etna Park up to an altitude of about 2000 meters. Thanks to the experience of our staff, on board of 4×4 vehicles you will live an interesting and at the same time fun experience. Starting from the lava flows that threatened entire villages, we will visit the extinct craters and the viewpoint of the majestic Valle del Bove. We will descend into the meanders of the volcano visiting a lava flow cave (lava tube) equipped with a helmet and speleologist lights. The tour will end with a tasting of Sicilian specialties. IMPORTANT NOTES: If you have a car we recommend that you reach our meeting point in Trecastagni in MontataGrande. This full-day tour allows you to go from a morning visit to Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe, to the beautiful and surprising valley of Alcantara river in the afternoon. In the first part of the excursion, you will submerge in nature and visit old craters and lava flow caves, enjoy breathtaking views, and taste typical local products. In the afternoon, before seeing the famous basaltic canyon named Gorges, you will walk next the river Alcantara through a lush vegetation until to visit the Gurne, little lakes created by the same river.

During the trip, approximately one-hour drive, the guide will entertain you with an in-depth historical-geological and volcanological explanation of Etna and you will see different types of vegetation such as: citrus groves, vineyards, chestnut groves and pine forests. Arrival at Piano Provenzana (North side – 1900 meters) . You will have approximately three hours available in which you can explore the surroundings independently with a soft trek. Possibility of reaching the maximum altitude allowed by the relevant authorities in the summit area, currently set at 2.900 meters, which can be reached by 4×4 minibus. Ascending the southern slope of Mount Etna, we will cross the lava flow of 1983 and 2002, and see up close its destructive effects. We will reach an altitude of 2.000 meters, where you can visit the Silvestri Craters originated from the eruption of 1892. Here you will walk on the edge of the craters, admiring the breathtaking landscape. On the way back, we will stop in a Honey Farm where you can learn the procedures for production of organic honey and taste varieties of honey and many other typical products like extra virgin olive oil, wine, Sicilian pesto etc. In Taormina, you will walk through the town enjoying the beauty of the historical center and the city's main attractions (Greek Theater, Cathedral, Belvedere Square). Afterwords, we will visit the characteristic medieval village of Castelmola with its Cathedral and the main square with its wonderful view on Mount Etna. An almost compulsory stop is Turrisi Coffee Shop, where it is possible to taste a special almond wine.

The difficulties vary from medium difficulty paths suitable for people in good health for the half day excursion (Half day trekking) to challenging itineraries for the full day solution (full day trekking), dedicated to pure trekking enthusiasts and therefore be prepared to face several hours of walking. Choose whether to do a half-day trek (about 3.30 hours of trekking suitable for everyone in good health) or a full day (6-7 hours for sportsmen). Unpredictable situations could cause the experience to end later than expected.
