Etna Tour in 4×4


This excursion includes an itinerary in stages to let you know and appreciate places of particular natural value within the reserve of the Etna Park up to an altitude of about 2000 meters. Thanks to the experience of our staff, on board of 4×4 vehicles you will live an interesting and at the same time fun experience. Starting from the lava flows that threatened entire villages, we will visit the extinct craters and the viewpoint of the majestic Valle del Bove. We will descend into the meanders of the volcano visiting a lava flow cave (lava tube) equipped with a helmet and speleologist lights. The tour will end with a tasting of Sicilian specialties. IMPORTANT NOTES: If you have a car we recommend that you reach our meeting point in Trecastagni in MontataGrande. LANGUAGE: During the high season there may be overbooking of reservations for one language. In this case, a tour leader speaking the selected language will be guaranteed in the scheduled stages of the tour.

2002 Crater Excursion – Northern Etna


The tour to the craters of 2002 is one of the most sought after destinations and chosen by tourists on the northern side of Etna, far from the large mass of visitors. This tour allows you to savor the authenticity of the Etna volcanic environment in total tranquility. Our guests accompanied by guides will be accompanied on a visit to the remains of the tourist infrastructures destroyed by the lava flows of the great eruption of 2002, through woods, lunar landscapes and finally on the edges of explosive craters, all in a path of just over 4.5 km roundtrip. Etna North excursions departing from Piano Provenzana


The 2002 eruption was among the most impressive and devastating in recent years. The route allows you to discover and study the many volcanic morphologies, related to the eruptions that followed one another on the northern slope of Etna. It will also be possible to visit the eruptions on the side of 10 September 1911 and 17 June 1923 which threatened the town of Linguaglossa. You will climb along the pyroclastic cones of the 2002 eruption until you reach the maximum altitude of 2100 meters. Once on the 2100 meter Crater it will begin the descent into a sandy channel that will lead us back to the starting point of Piano Provenzana. Etna Nord Piano Provenzana ascent by bus up to 3000mt


The hike starts from Piano Provenzana 1,800 meters and continues along the scenic road that will allow us to reach an altitude of about 3,000 meters. The first stop will be at the ruins of the hotel “Le Betulle” , the only structure visible among those destroyed by the lava flow on October 27, 2002. Continue in the direction of the extinct craters “Umberto and Margherita”, located at an altitude of 2,380 meters for a simple trek.Then you reach the volcanological observatory and left the off-road vehicle begins a short trek to the top of the promontory of Pizzi Deneri at an altitude of 3000 meters about.2.850 meters where, weather conditions permitting, you can admire . It will be possible to observe the Aeolian Islands, the Ionian Coast, the Calabrian coasts and in absolute safety, the summit craters that dominate the majestic valley of the bove.Next stop the craters of 2002 with its characteristic button craters, made the trek on the button you return with 4×4 buses to Piano Provenzana.

Etna Alcantara tour: the majestic lava landscape


Etna Alcantara tour is the experience to discover two totally different types of lava landscapes. The first part of the day will take you to the northern side of Mt. Etna at 6500 ft above sea level. Here you will learn about the stages that led to the origin of Mt. Etna and the different types of volcanic activities all hiking up to the edge of some of the extinct craters formed by ancient eruptions. In the second part of the Etna Alcantara tour, you will visit the Alcantara Valley where the Alcantara River has shaped the famous basaltic lava canyon formed by prehistoric lava flows of Mount Etna. Here you will spend some times by the River, having the possibility to go in the cold water, admiring outstanding geological formations. Don't forget to bring with you: sunscreen, hat, hiking shoes. Water shoes, swimsuits and towels will be useful if you plan to go in the water (in the summertime).


ETNA BASIC TOUR 2.000 mt


Departure to Mount Etna (North side) , the highest active volcano in Europe. Transportation by Bus GT. Excursion with local multilanguage guide. During the trip, approximately one-hour drive, the guide will entertain you with an in-depth historical-geological and volcanological explanation of Etna and you will see different types of vegetation such as: citrus groves, vineyards, chestnut groves and pine forests. Arrival at Piano Provenzana (North side – 1900 meters) . You will have approximately three hours available in which you can explore the surroundings independently with a soft trek. Possibility of reaching the maximum altitude allowed by the relevant authorities in the summit area, currently set at 2.900 meters, which can be reached by 4×4 minibus. TICKET PRICE NOT INCLUDED, to be paid on spot. Return to Taormina in the afternoon. Remarks: we recommend to bring with you appropriate clothing and walking shoes.

Summit Etna North 3300mt: 4×4 and trekking


Departures planned from Piano Provenzana with off-road vehicles along the panoramic path that leads up to the north side of Mt. Etna, through ancient craters and recent lava flows up to 2825 mt. Then we start the ascent (470mt positive level difference) on foot on a path surrounded by volcanic bombs and scoria, till we will reach the Central Crater at a height of 3300 mt, where we will stop to admire the greatness,the uniqueness and the processes of this extraordinary volcanic environment, combined with the spectacle of the panorama that can be enjoyed from the roof of Sicily (the visibility might change according to weather or volcanic conditions). The descent goes back along the same path, while the last part will be made inside little channels constituted by soft and friable volcanic scoria, on which you can walk easily without any problem adopting the necessary precautions, till a height of 2825 mt where we will get the off road vehicles for the trip back down to Piano Provenzana.


Sunset Etna North qt 3000 mt and Craters 2002 Bus 4×4 Easy Trek


The excursion starts from Etna Nord – tourist station of Piano Provenzana qt. 1,800 meters and continues along the scenic road that, between ancient craters and recent lava flows, will allow us to reach qt. First to the ruins of the hotel "Le Betulle", the only structure visible among those destroyed by the lava flow of 2002. Next stage an easy trek to the characteristic button craters of the eruption of 27 October 2002. From qt. 2,050 mt. about it will be possible to see the lava flow that destroyed Piano Provenzana. Return to the vehicles, stop at qt. 2.380 mt. to the large extinct craters "Umberto and Margherita" for a short trek. Next step arrival by 4×4 bus to the Volcanological Observatory, from here short trek to the top of the promontory of Pizzi Deneri qt. 3,000 meters. where, in absolute safety, we will be dominated by the Summit Craters. From the volcanological observatory you will wait for sunset and then return to Piano Provenzana.


Etna North: Guided trekking to Summit volcano craters


Starting from Piano Provenzana 1800masl (Etna Nord), the unique slope that currently allows the climb to the summit in safe conditions, with special 4×4 we will arrive to 2825masl (Piano delle Concazze.) From here begins the ascent of about 2h to the main crater rim at an altitude of 3.320masl. You will walk on the edge of the Central Crater, Northeast Crater and we will admire the famous Southeast Crater, author of the most recent and impressive eruptions. You will surrounded by a unique volcanic environment, with gas emissions, volcanic bombs, and the sparkling colors of the ground due to the sublimation of various elements, including sulfur in particular. After the visit at the top, the panoramic path of descent characterized by fine volcanic ash and scorie, will give us a unforgettable view of Sicily coast During the hike the guide will explain the history, the formation and the peculiarities of the volcano. Once again at 2825masl, with the 4×4 we will return to Piano Provenzana

Tour to Etna North Base and Alcantara Gorges


From a naturalistic point of view, it is the most exciting tour as we will cross the small and typical municipalities of the area such as Calatabiano, Castiglione di Sicilia and Linguaglossa to reach Piano Provenzana. Upon returning, our journey will continue to reach the Alcantara Gorges: a lava canyon crossed by icy waters. Here there will be the opportunity to taste typical local products inside the botanical and geological park and use an elevator to reach the canyon.

During this incredible event, the volcano destroyed the tourist station of Piano Provenzana, which was later reconstructed in 2004. Our hike will start exactly from this area. You will be able to admire the peak of the summit craters, visible throughout the entire excursion. Take your time to stop every now and then during the ascent, until you reach the Saponaria fields immediately before the button-hole system of the 2002 craters.
