Matera has been elected Capital of Culture 2019. This experience departs from Bari and you will be transferred to Matera by comfortable minivan. Once in Matera, start your walking tour from the old town with a magnificent view of the Sasso Barisano. Appreciated and visited for its stones, Matera also offers many other pearls of beauty and culture.

We will start with a small breakfast under the patriarch olive tree, in an old countryside. Later we will go through the caverns of an ancient farmhouse. Under the centuries-old olive trees we will taste Matera bread and prepare a traditional dish from Matera, "la cialledda", which tells of the encounter between the typical bread of Matera, now stale, and the vegetables and mixed salads of the Lucanian land. All this will take place in a laboratory, at the end of which we will share this meal as even today the olive pickers do in their breaks. The cialledda will be accompanied by Primitivo wine and from the bundle containing Lucanian Slow Food Presidium products: Caciocavallo Podolico, Baked olives from Ferrandina and Pezzente salami from the Matera mountains. We will also be cheered by the sounds of popular instruments and the songs of the Matera tradition.

Our experiential tour offers a hands-on bread-making workshop, complete with an introduction to the company’s rich history, spanning four generations in the local area. The experience begins with an explanation of the ingredients used, such as the finest local semolina and natural sourdough starter. From there, you'll step into the bakery’s workshop, where the master baker will guide you through bread-making: kneading, proofing, shaping the dough, and applying the unique stamp that defines Matera bread. As part of the process, you'll have the chance to roll up your sleeves and craft your own loaf of bread. Once baked, your creation will be yours to take home as a delicious memento. The tour concludes with a tasting of local specialties in a cozy, designated area where you can unwind and savor the region's flavors. Are you ready for Murgia Experience? Our driver will pick-up you at 10:00am. Too late? No! It's very important you are not stressed. The first stopover is in Altamura. Dicecca is one of the most famous Apulian cheese factory. They produce cheese since 1930. You'll see the live production and then you'll taste burrata, ricotta and caciocavallo. The second stopover is at Panificio La Maggiore where you'll taste Altamura bread, focaccia and the delicious "tette delle monache". The last stopover is Plantamura: visit to the vineyards, the cellar and… You'll taste 3 different wines!

Enjoy a day in the Sassi of Matera and explore the ancient neighborhoods in the company of a professional guide. Admire a series of caves carved into the limestone and explore Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso and savor the taste of Puglian bread by paying a visit to a local bakery. Finally, taste wines and oils and lunch immersed in the atmosphere of the stones. Start the tour at the meeting point in Bari, from here, you will initially move to Altamura to taste the Apulian bread and focaccia, the visit will last 45 minutes. Continue in the direction of Matera, an expert guide will take you to the historic center of the city, to visit the rock church and visit the cave house. On board an elegant van or car, you will reach Piazza Vittorio Veneto in Matera, the place where the viewpoint of the Sasso Barisano is located which, together with the Sasso Caveoso, constitute the main attraction of Matera. During the walk, you can admire the Cathedral of the Madonna della Bruna, completed in 1270, the Palazzo del Sedile, a Renaissance building, now home to the Duni Conservatory; Madonna dell'Idris and San Giovanni in Monterrone, two churches partly excavated and partly built, the excavation of which dates back to the 11th century. Walking among the Sassi, a Unesco site since 1993, you can admire the landscape of the Gravina di Matera, a canyon created by the slow working of the Gravina stream, and the Murgia Materana Park, where hundreds of rock churches, hermitages and monasteries have found space, subsequently used by shepherds for transhumance. During the tour, we will visit a cave house and the rock church of Santa Lucia alle Malve (11th century).
