Levada Da Referta

 The Easy Walks Begins in the area of Refertas, Porto da Cruz, this trail leads hikers through a journey filled with several species of endemic flora and fauna, as well as beautiful landscapes that show some of the beauty and tradition of this island.

This is an easy hike and quite pleasant! The scenery is breathtaking and completely different from any other area in Madeira.

This walk has its beginning in Referta and ends in Castelejo. This is an easy and pleasant walk where you have the chance to see, in between the cultivated terraces, the vineyard responsible for the production of the famous american wine. You will have the opportunity to see the famous Eagle Rock (Penha d’Águia).

Considered an easy-grade walk, Levada da Referta is relatively short and flat. This walk does not present any significant difficulties. The agricultural side of the walk allows you to observe the local crops grown for self-sustenance. Most of the uncultivated land belongs to people who have since emigrated or that do not make the primary sector their main activity. A Penha de Águia marks its presence throughout the walk and includes one of the many trails located close to the levada.
