Discover Etna and the Alcantara Gorges! The perfect mix of adventure and refreshing relax! The excursion begins by SUV or minivan (up to 8 people), together with our experienced guides. Our first stop is an off-road trip to the 2002 eruption lava fron. Continuing along the Via Mareneve, in the middle of the Ragabo pine forest, we will arrive at the starting point of our trekking to the Monti Sartorius craters. We will continue on foot, starting at 1650 metres and arriving at an altitude of 1750 metres, an easy walk suitable for everyone. We will then explore a lava flow cave, the Grotta dei Ladroni, equipped with helmets and torches. We will stop at a local chalet or restaurant for lunch (included in the price: a first course, drink and coffee). After lunch, we will reach the characteristic Alcantara Gorges, also known as the Larderia Gorges. A refreshing and relaxing visit to a wonderful place. You can cool off in the Alcantara river in the middle of the canyon of the Gorges!

The ascent is carried out by cable car and 4 × 4 minibuses up to an altitude of 2900m in the area of Torre del Filosofo, from here after about 1.5h of uphill walking you will arrive on the edge of the central crater from which you can observe the Bocca Nuova (3250m ), which opened in 1968, probably the most impressive crater. Departures planned from Piano Provenzana with off-road vehicles along the panoramic path that leads up to the north side of Mt. Etna, through ancient craters and recent lava flows up to 2825 mt. Then we start the ascent (470mt positive level difference) on foot on a path surrounded by volcanic bombs and scoria, till we will reach the Central Crater at a height of 3300 mt, where we will stop to admire the greatness,the uniqueness and the processes of this extraordinary volcanic environment, combined with the spectacle of the panorama that can be enjoyed from the roof of Sicily (the visibility might change according to weather or volcanic conditions). The descent goes back along the same path, while the last part will be made inside little channels constituted by soft and friable volcanic scoria, on which you can walk easily without any problem adopting the necessary precautions, till a height of 2825 mt where we will get the off road vehicles for the trip back down to Piano Provenzana.

The route is a valid alternative to the top craters, and is among the most complete and fascinating that can be offered on the volcano, suitable for those who want to walk among craters, fractures in the ground, lava flows and visit exceptional volcanic supply ducts, where a time the molten magmatic mass boiled.The trekking of great volcanological interest, involves the ascent on special 4×4 vehicles from an altitude of 1800 meters to an altitude of 2800 meters (for a total of 8 km of road) accompanied by your volcanological guide who will begin the explanations on board.During the journey you will visit the fracture called (Rift) of the north side of Etna, you will enter with your protective helmets inside the chimney of a perfectly intact volcanic cone, you will visit the mouths that have produced the lava flows. Starting from Piano Provenzana 1800masl (Etna Nord), the unique slope that currently allows the climb to the summit in safe conditions, with special 4×4 we will arrive to 2825masl (Piano delle Concazze.) From here begins the ascent of about 2h to the main crater rim at an altitude of 3.320masl. You will walk on the edge of the Central Crater, Northeast Crater and we will admire the famous Southeast Crater, author of the most recent and impressive eruptions. You will surrounded by a unique volcanic environment, with gas emissions, volcanic bombs, and the sparkling colors of the ground due to the sublimation of various elements, including sulfur in particular. After the visit at the top, the panoramic path of descent characterized by fine volcanic ash and scorie, will give us a unforgettable view of Sicily coast During the hike the guide will explain the history, the formation and the peculiarities of the volcano. From a naturalistic point of view, it is the most exciting tour as we will cross the small and typical municipalities of the area such as Calatabiano, Castiglione di Sicilia and Linguaglossa to reach Piano Provenzana. Upon returning, our journey will continue to reach the Alcantara Gorges: a lava canyon crossed by icy waters. Here there will be the opportunity to taste typical local products inside the botanical and geological park and use an elevator to reach the canyon.

The hike starts from Piano Provenzana 1,800 meters and continues along the scenic road that will allow us to reach an altitude of about 3,000 meters. The first stop will be at the ruins of the hotel “Le Betulle” , the only structure visible among those destroyed by the lava flow on October 27, 2002. Continue in the direction of the extinct craters “Umberto and Margherita”, located at an altitude of 2,380 meters for a simple trek.Then you reach the volcanological observatory and left the off-road vehicle begins a short trek to the top of the promontory of Pizzi Deneri at an altitude of 3000 meters about.2.850 meters where, weather conditions permitting, you can admire . Return to the vehicles, stop at qt. 2.380 mt. to the large extinct craters "Umberto and Margherita" for a short trek. Next step arrival by 4×4 bus to the Volcanological Observatory, from here short trek to the top of the promontory of Pizzi Deneri qt. 3,000 meters. where, in absolute safety, we will be dominated by the Summit Craters. From the volcanological observatory you will wait for sunset and then return to Piano Provenzana.

WE WILL TAKE YOU OUT OF THE TOURIST ROUTES !! Surrounded by a landscape, sometimes lunar, we will try to know and explore Etna, a World Heritage Site, famous for its beauty and uniqueness.
